Eliseo Salazar is the only Chilean to have participated in a Formula One World Championship so far. In 1980 he was the runner-up in the British Formula One Championship. Next seasoin, 1981, Chilean debuted in the World Championship with the March Grand Prix team. After Monaco GP he replaced Marc Surer in the Ensign racing team, and was took 6th position at the Dutch Grand Prix as his best finish of the season.
