Renault RS01 introduced in 1977 brought several innovative features to Formula 1 world. It was the first car powered by a turbocharged engine, as well as first car to use radial tyres, provided by Michelin. Despite (or maybe because of) its innovations the car was quite unreliable. In 1978 works driver Jean-Pierre Jabouille retired from 9 races out of 15 starts. The rivals nicknamed the RS01 “the yellow teapot” for its regular blow up retirements in the clouds of white smoke.
