Grand Prix History in Scale Models

1921, Brumm, Bugatti, Franz Conelli

1921 Bugatti 22 “Brescia” Conelli

The first true Bugatti car, Type 13, was in production in 1910 – 1922. The  type 13 road  cars were also the base for several modifications into racing vehicles corresponding to the “Voiturette” class.  Type 22 was one of the modifications made in 1913. After World War I Bugatti Type 22 cars were regular entrants in voiturette racing. In 1921 Bugatti 22 took first 4 places at voiturette Grand Prix held in Brescia as a part of Brescia motorsport meeting culminating in Italian Grand Prix. That’s why the car was nicknamed “Brescia”. One of the Brescia races called Circuito di Brescia was run for the voiturettes. It was won by Italian  Franz Conelli behind the wheel of Bugatti 22 #3.

  1. Hi Mikhail,
    thank you for your comment.
Type 13 and Type 22 is essentially the same model. The 22, appeared in 1913, is a fourth evolution of Type 13, designed in 1910. The major difference is longer wheelbase (2.4m vs 2 m). Sometimes (quite frequently), Type 22 is referred as Type 13. The car modelled by Brumm is Type 22 raced in 1921.

See the phoro of Type 22 (13) from GP delle Vetturette, car raced by Piero Marco:

and Type 22 from Junior Car Club 200 Mile Race raced by Pierre de Vizcaya
