





Unimog was quite a popular truck in the Dakar Rally in the 1980s. Teams in German multi-purpose truck vehicles won the truck class of the Dakar in 1982, 1985 and 1986. In the 1984 edition of the rally Unimog 4×4 driven by Italian Paolo Bonera with co-driver Valerio Grassi and mechanic Paolo Travaglia finished 2nd in the truck class. The driver Paolo Bonera, born in 1948, was former motorcycle rider. The pinnacle of his motorcycling career was the World Championship in the 250 cc class.
