Team MAZ-Sportauto was founded by Belorussian MAZ truck company in 2010 to race in rally raids, following the example of the Russian KAMAZ factory. In 2010-11 MAZ raced in Silk Way Rally and few other smaller raids in Russia. MAZ debuted in Dakar in 2012. Sergey (or Siarhei according to Belorussian transcription) Viazovich, who raced in classic rally since 2010, joined MAZ Spotrauto in 2012, and debuted in Dakar following year. His best Dakar result was 2nd in trucks in 2018 and 3rd in 2020. In 2011-2019 MAZ used cab over 5309RR truck, and in 2018 new torpedo 6440RR model was developed which became the main MAZ rally raid truck since 2019. In the 2019 Dakar Viazovich driving this new model finished 6th in trucks, while two other MAZ trucks were cab over 5309RR driven by Aleksandr Vasilevski (finished 6th) and Alexey Vishnevski (retired). In March 2019 MAZ Sportauto team took part in the Morocco Desert Challenge rally raid, 12th edition of the event. MAZ dominated this hard two-weekds raid finishing 1st (Viazivich in 6440RR) and 3rd (Vishnevski in 5309RR).
