Jan de Rooy, one the legendary early Dakar truck stars, took part in the rally since 1982. In the 1985 edition of the race he drove DAF 3300 mighty vehicle nicknamed “The Bull” for its brutal appearance. The truck was powered by double engines; one developed 450 hp, and other 420 hp. The crew De Rooy / Thierry de Saulieu / Martinus Ketelaars finished 2nd in truck category behind winning Mercedes-Benz 1936 AK driven by Karl-Friedrich Capito.
