For the 1986 Dakar DAF pprepared new special twin turbo truck. Two engines located side by side with a total power of 1000 hp allowed the car, also known as the “Steel TurboTwin”, to reach speeds of up to 200 kph. However, the unconditional leadership of de Rooy was prevented by a breakdown and he was forced to retire from the race.
