In the 1987 Dakar race DAF Team De Rooy Transport was represented by one racing truck – new DAF TurboTwin II driven by Jan de Rooy, and two DAF FAV 3600 service trucks driven by Peter van Maris (#631) and Leon Dieker (#632). DA built the new version of the Turbo Twin II or “Aluminum Turbo Twin”. It was this car that allowed Jan De Rooy in 1987 to finally win the Paris-Dakar in the truck category. Tatra team pilot Karel Loprais, who finished second, lost 14 and a half hours to Jan. It is also worth noting that De Rooy took 11th place overall.
