Team de Rooy Transport returned to Dakar in 2002 after 14-years gap after tragic 1988 race. Jan’s son Gerard de Rooy joined his father in the team since that year. In the 2005 Dakar Jan and Gerard finished 4th and 5th respectively. One of the de Rooy service truck, “fast assistance” DAF CF75 4×4, was driven by Hugo Duisters, who raced in the 1980s as the mechanic. The crew Hugo Duisters / Yvo Geusens / Mohamed el Bouzidi finished the race 21st in the truck’s standings.
