1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza Brivio

In the 1932 Grand Prix season Scuderia Ferrari entered Alfa Romeo cars alongside works SA Alfa Romeo team. The Scuderia operated with the less powerful Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza models and had no chance to compete against the stronger and more modern Alfa Romeo P3 works cars. Drivers were primarily Antonio Brivio and Pierro Taruffi but also Pietro Ghersi and Eugenio Siena with Gianfranco Comotti were sometimes sent to some races.

Antonio Brivio, Marquis Sforza was born in the family of the Milan rulers of the XVth and early XVIth centuries. He started racing in 1927 and raced Talbot-Darracq, Scuderia Materassi and Alfa Romeo sportscars in 1932-33. In the 1932 Targa Florio Brivio started the car #4, Alfa Romeo Monza for Scuderia Ferrari. After four laps completed, Brivio came into his pit with a broken brake and retired. When Ghersi in another Scuderia Ferrari Monza arrived at his pit for service, Brivio took over his car and drove it to 4th position in the finish.

After the war Brivio was the chairman of the Sporting Commission of the Italian Automobile Club and, with Lurani, Filippini and Aymo Maggi, gave a big help to the re-birth of Italian racing and to regain a world-wide prominence. Brivio, as a member of FIA since 1948, had made the initial proposal for a world drivers’ championship early in 1949. Later he was the FIA representative at Formula One races for many years.
