David Piper began his career in the mid-1950s by competing in sprints and hill-climbs, before beginning circuit racing with a Lotus Eleven. In 1959 he moved up to a Lotus 16 which he used in 1959 and 1960 to compete in both Formula One and Formula Two, by means of changing engines as appropriate. Piper recorded two World Championship starts, both at his home British Gran Prix in 1959 and 1960. He retired in 1959 and finished 12th in 1960. In the 1960th Piper raced his own Ferraris and Porsches in many sport cars events including Le Mans. In 1970s Piper also drove in few races of the British Saloon car Championship.
