March Engineering begun the 1973 season with hardly any money and ran only one car, for Jean-Pierre Jarier. The car, March 731 was actually the 721G with the radiators moved from the sides to the front of the cars, narrow track suspension, a longer wheelbase and add-on deformable side structures to comply with new regulations. Jarier also competed in the European Formula 2 championship which he won and missed some F1 races. Henri Pescarolo replaced him in the Spanish Grand Prix, and finished 8th.
