1991 Jordan 191 de Cesaris

1991 was the debut season for Jordan Grand Prix. Team’s first cat, the 191, was designed by Gary Anderson and was powered by Ford HBA3 3.5-litre V8 engine. Anderson, who had previously worked for Reynard and had designed that manufacturer’s F3000 cars, built a nice looking car with a raised nose and a drooping rear diffuser. The team’s drivers for the inaugural season were experienced Andrea de Cesaris and Belgian Bertrand Gachot. The 191 was consisted runner which allowed de Cesaris and Gachot regularly score small points. At Hungaroring Gachot even managed to set fastest race lap. After the Hungarian race, Gachot’s season was curtailed by a two-month prison sentence, for spraying CS gas at a taxi driver in London. Over the final six races, three drivers filled in for Belgian – Michael Schumacher, Roberto Moreno and Alessandro Zanardi. As to de Cesaris, he collected points in four races finishing best as 4th in Canada and Mexico. Andrea was 9th in the final Drivers’ Championship standings with 9 points.
