1968 Lola T100 de Bagration

The F2 single-seater was built by Lola cars in 1967 to be fitted with BMW M10 L4 2-litre  engine and raced by BMW works team. In the 1967 Formula 2 season  Lola – BMW was raced by Britons David Hobbs and Brian Redman. Both took part in the 1967 German Grand Prix in their F2 cars – Hobbs’ car was fitted with BMW engine while Redmans’ was equipped with 1.6-litres Ford Cosworth FVA.  German Hubert Hahne drove the T100 adapted to Formula 1, fitted with a BMW engine and Dunlop tyres.

Before the 1968 season one of the Lola T100 cars (powered by 1.6 L Ford Cosworth) was bought by Spanish team Escuderia Nacional CS to be driven by Jorge de Bagration in the Formula two season. Jorge de Bagration y de Mukhrani was born in Rome, Italy in 1944. He was  the eldest son of émigré Prince Irakli Bagration-Mukhrani, head of the Mukhraneli branch of the Bagration royal family of Georgia. He started his motor sport career in 1959, firstly with motorcycles and from 1963 in cars, racing in various series. He made two attempts at Formula One, firstly at the 1968 Spanish Grand Prix with a Lola, but his entry was refused.

The model represents de Bagration’s Lola T100 from the F2 pau Grand Prix 1968 where the Spanish driver of Georgian origin retired early in the race.
