The F312 Formula 3 car was designed and built by Dallara in 2012 to replace the F308 model introduced in 2008.The designers team of Luca Pignacca, Andrea Toso, Jos Claes and Ferdinando Concari designed the car to meet the new 2012 FIA Formula 3 regulations, which were much more restrictive compared to previous rules, and led to reduced downforce levels. Compared to the previous generation Dallara F308, the F312 features a higher monocoque and a lower nose-section than the outgoing model, with the front dampers and springs being placed inside the tub, a first for a Dallara F3 car, alongside a revised aerodynamic package. The F312 was widely used in Formula 3 racing until 2017 when new generation F317 car was introduced.
Then 16 years old Max Verstappen made his debut in single-seaters, collected ten wins (more than any other driver) in the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and finished 3rd in the final standings. Verstappen drove for Van Amersfoort Racing team and also took part in the 2014 Macau Grand Prix where he retired early due to accident.
