Rolland-Pilain was a French car manufacturer based in Tours. The company founded by  businessman  François Rolland and engineer  Émile Pilain, produced their cars since 1907. For the 1922 ACF Grand Prix the engineer Henry Grillot designed a 2-Liter twin o.h.c. straight-eight engine with a ball bearing crank, desmodromic operation of the valves, hydraulic front brakes and a nice streamlined tail, painted light blue. Three cars for Albert Guyot, Victor Hémery and Louis Wagner were entered for the Grand Prix, and all three retired in the early stage of the race due to various technical problems.

The cars also raced 1923 ACF Grand Prix and the greatest success came to Rollan-Pilain when Albert Guyot drove a Rolland-Pilain A22 to victory in the 1923 San Sebastián Grand Prix.  Rolland-Pilain returned to Le Mans in 1924 and again in 1925, entering 3 Torpedo bodied cars, their engine sizes restricted to 1,997cc.
