1924 Bugatti T35 Delaunay art car

Art car painted by famous artist  Sonia Delaunay in the mid of 1930s. Sonia Delaunay was a French artist born to Jewish parents in Russian Empire, who spent most of her working life in Paris. Sonia with her husband Robert Delaunay and others, founded the Orphism art movement, noted for its use of strong colours and geometric shapes. Delaunay illustrated for Vogue, turned her hand to set and costume design, and established her own global textiles label ‘Tissus Delaunay’ alongside setting up her own interior and fashion boutique, ‘Casa Sonia’ in 1918. Delaunay experimented with car art painting since the mid 1920s her Bugatti T35 (1924) Citroën B12 (1925) were one of the earliest examples from the Art Car movement. Along with Citroen and Bugatti Delaunay’s art car masterpieces  was the pattern for a Matra 530, presented in Paris in 1967 as part of an exhibition of artist-decorated cars entitled ‘Cinq voitures personnalisées par cinq artistes contemporains’ (‘Five Cars Personalized by Five Contemporary Artists’). The scale model of Delaunay’s Bugatti was made in France by A. Fournier for M.C.M. brand.
