



The 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans marked the climax of the Ford-Ferrari duel, begun in 1964. Dan Gurney and A. J. Foyt, driving a Ford Mk IV, won the race after leading from the second hour, becoming the first and only all-American victors (car, team, and drivers) of the race. Ferraris were second and third.
Scuderia Ferrari arrived at Le Mans with three works team cars, the 330 P4, the further evolution of 250P model. The car had new bodywork, a better gearbox and the engine reworked, now putting out 450 bhp. Chris Amon and Nino Vaccarella drove the open-top spider version of the car, Team regulars Ludovico Scarfiotti / Mike Parkes and Guenther Klass / Peter Sutcliffe were in closed version. The other P4 was run by the Equipe Nationale Belge for Willy Mairesse / “Beurlys”( Jean Blaton). Their car was marked by yellow stripe along the bodywork. The leading equipe of Amon and Vaccarella retired after 10 hours with engine fire. Scarfiotti / Parkes finished second, Belgian team was 3rd, and Klass / Sutcliffe retired after 18 hours.
