



1949 season of Turismo Carretera consisted of 13 races. The season was dominated by Juan Galvez who won 5 races in his Ford V8. His elder brother Juan Alfredo Galvez was 2nd and took one win, in the inaugural event of the year, 1000 Millas Argentinas in January. Argentinian best driver Juan Manuel Fangio spent the major part of the season in Europe, and took part only in two rounds of the Turismo Carretera – first (1000 Millas Argentinas) in January and last one (Gran Premio de la Republica Argentina) in November, finishing second both times. Gran Premio de lae Republica Argentina was the hardest multi-stage road race lasted for 23 days, and it was last Fangio’s race in Turismo Carretea. Fangio’s second finish behind Juan Galvez gave him also 3rd position in the final standings of Turismo Carretera.
