Jean Alesi joined DTM in 2002, so it was his fourth year (out of five total) in German touring cars. Alesi, driving AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse 2005 for HWA Team, won the inaugural round of the year at Hockenheimring. He was 7th in the final standing of the series.
