German company Büssing was founded in the year 1903 by Heinrich Büssing in Braunschweig. Büssing is considered as the oldest German lorry manufacturer. In 1931, Büssing took over the AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft AG) daughter NAG (Neue Automobil Gesellschaft) and become Büssing-NAG. Auto Union bought three Typ 300 lorry chassis from Büssing-NAG and delivered them to Wagenfabrik Hermann Schumann where the chassis received a box compartment over the bed, integrated with the cabin. The transporter was powered by 6 cylinder petrol unit with 3962 cm³ capable of 70 hp. With a maximum payload of 3210 kg the truck had a range of 480 km on a full fuel tank. The Auto Union transporter only had room for one race car and spares. Consequently, the Renndienst always dispatched two or three Typ 300 to each race. The Typ 300 carried all of Auto Union’s silver arrows from 1934 to 1939. Currently one surviving Typ 300 transporter is on display at the August Horch Museum, in Zwickau, Germany.
