Austrian rally driver Rudolf Stohl used Lada rally cars for more than 10 years – from 1975 to 1985. In 1982 Stohl and his co driver Reinhard Kaufmann achieved 2nd place in the Himalaya Rally in their Lada 1600. Later same year Stohl – Kaufmann finished 13th in the Safary Rally in Kenya becoming the first Austrians to reach the finish line of this competition.
