In the 1926 Targa Florio race, the Delage works team entered their latest 12-cylinder 2-liter supercharged Grand Prix cars for their works drivers Albert Divo, Rene Thomas and Robert Benoist. Another Delage was raced independently and had been purchased by the Florentine Count Giulio Masetti. The favorite and two times winner Masetti crashed on his first lap when his car overturned at a turn before Caltavuturo, killing the famous driver. Three works Delage cars were subsequently withdrawn from the race.
