Jack Brabham and Jacky Ickx drove for Brabham works team, Motor Racing Developments Ltd., in the 1969 F1 season. The latest BT26A was also available for Frank Williams Racing Cars, represented by Piers Courage. He achieved two second-place finishes and was 8th in the final standings of the season.
The BT26 was a technically advanced car for its time. It was constructed from lightweight, high-tensile strength aluminum and featured a streamlined, aerodynamic body design. The BT26 was also notable for its innovative use of a rear wing. This was a new feature in Formula One racing, so Brabham, as some other F1 teams, tried various configurations of the rear wing throughout the season. At the Spanish GP Brabham experimented with the high rear and front wings attached to the suspension.
