Surtees TS16 designed by team founder and owner John Surtees, was a conventional mid-1970s F1 car featured aluminium alloy monocoque and powered by Ford Cosworth DFV 3-litre engine. The Team Surtees started the season with Carlos Pace and Johen Mass but in the second half of the season changed pilots frequently, mainly for financial reasons. French Jose Dolhem and Jean-Pierre Jabouille, British Derek Bell, Austrians Helmut Koinigg and Dieter Quester took the drivers’ seat in various races.
Johen Mass drove for the team for 11 rounds, scoring no points, before left Surtees to join McLaren for the final two races of the year.
