One of the most prominent American racing stables, Team Penske, entered Formula One in 1974 with PC1 car, an aluminium monocoque chassis built around a Ford Cosworth DFV 3.0-litre V8 engine and a Hewland FG 400 gearbox. In the 1976 Penske designer Geoff Ferris developed a second model, the PC3, which was mainly based on March 751 designs. For the second half of the season Penske presented the next car, PC4, featured a low monocoque tub with hip radiators. The works Penske car was driven by John Watson, while after introducing PC4, the PC3 car was privately entered by F&S Properties in the 1976 Dutch GP for local driver Johan Gerard “Boy” Hayje. The Dutch finished 12th at Zandvoort at his F1 debut.
