The March 811 was designed on behalf of RAM Racing by Robin Herd, Gordon Coppuck and Adrian Reynard. Conceptually, the March 811 was a copy of the Williams FW07, which in turn was heavily based on the Lotus 79. The car was driven by Derek Daly and, in first six races of the year, by Eliseo Salazar. Both drivers scored no points and even failed to qualify in the half of their attempts. The racing team was sponsored by the Irish brewery Guinness for most of the year’s races. The cars were painted black with white sponsor lettering.
