The MP4/11 was driven by Finn Mika Häkkinen, who was in his third full season with the team, and Briton David Coulthard, who moved from Williams. In the mi-season starting from British GP slightly modified MP4/11B version appeared. Hakkinen was 5th in the championship with four podiums while Coulthard finished 7th with one podium. 1996 was the final year for Marlboro sponsorship after the team losing their long-term deal with the brand at the end of season.
