The F310B used 1996 F310 model as a base, improving its shape and mechanicals, with Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn as chief designer and technical director, respectively, to replace Barnard who left mid-season in 1997. The F310B became a five-time winning car in the hands of Michael Schumacher who finished the season 2nd but was excluded from the results of the Drivers’ Championship afterwards due to dangerous driving in the European Grand Prix, where he was deemed to have caused an avoidable collision with Jacques Villeneuve. Eddie Irvine achieved 5 podiums and was 7th in the final drivers’ standings of the season.
