Red Bull entered its second season in F1 in 2006. After relatively fruitful inaugural 2005 season where David Coulthard and Kristian Klien were regular point’s finishers, RB2 performance was slightly disappointing. Coulthard managed to score first podium for the Red Bull finishing 3rd at Monaco Grand Prix, but there was nothing more to brag about. Dutch test driver Robert Doornbos drove the RB2 in free practice session of the first 15 races, and then was promoted as GP driver replacing Christian Klien for the rest 3 races, but did not finish in all three attempts.
