The C43 was the last Sauber-engineered car to be badged as an Alfa Romeo. Designed by the team led by Jan Monchaux as technical director and Eric Gandelin as chief designer, the car was powered by Ferrari engine. The C43 was driven by Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, both in their second year at the team. Alfa Romeo was one of the outsiders of the season finishing in the constructors championship penultimate 9th. Bottas ended up 15th in the drivers’ championship with 10 points. Zhou finished 18th in the drivers’ championship with 6 points.
For the Las Vegas race Alfa Romeo, as well as some other teams, used a special livery. Bottas qualified 8th at Las Vegas but finished 18th due to front wing damage from Fernando Alonso.
