2023 McLaren MCL60 Norris Monaco GP

The 2023 season celebrated the 60th anniversary of the McLaren team’s founding, with the season’s car named the MCL60 in commemoration. With the MCL60, designed under the direction of James Key, and powered by Mercedes engine, McLaren continued his upward journey. The car was driven by Lando Norris for his fifth season with the team, and Australian rookie Oscar Piastri, 2020 Formula Three and  2021 Formula Two champion. Norris scored 7 podiums but still no wins, and finished the championship 6th. Piastri made it to the podium in two final races of the season and was 9th in final drivers’ standings of the year.

For the Monaco and Spanish Grand Prix, the MCL60 ran with a special livery celebrating McLaren’s achievement of the Triple Crown of Motorsport – McLaren being the only motorsports team to have completed it as of 2023. The car was painted in three segments to commemorate McLaren’s first win of each component race. The rear of the car was papaya in reference to the McLaren M16C/D that Johnny Rutherford won the 1974 Indianapolis 500 in, the middle was white in tribute to the McLaren MP4/2 that Alain Prost drove when he won the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, and the front was black in recognition of the McLaren F1 GTR that JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas, and Masanori Sekiya drove to victory in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.
