The championship was due to be contested over fourteen rounds in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, North America, and South America. But seven ePrix – at New York City, Paris, Rome, Sanya, London and the inaugural Jakarta and Seoul ePrix were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In their place six ePrix were scheduled across three different layouts at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit between 5–13 August. On May 23, 2020.
Daniel Abt raced in first 5 races for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Formula E Team. On May 23, 2020, Abt competed as an Audi factory driver in the sim racing series “Race at Home Challenge.” However, he violated the rules by allowing a professional esports player to race on his behalf. Consequently, he was disqualified, lost all the championship points he had earned so far. After this scandal Abt signed for the Nio 333 FE Team, replacing Ma Qinghua as travel restrictions prevented the latter from traveling to Berlin.
