The ninth season of the FIA Formula E championship began its third generation of technical regulations. The new car, Gen 3, with the new chassis again built by Spark Racing Technology and now powered by two powertrains, with a second one added to the front axle, increasing the maximum power output from 250 kW to 600 kW. The weight of the car was reduced by 60 kg. Increased power and reduced weight saw maximum speeds climb to over 320 km/h.
British driver Sam Bird, who competed in Formula E since the beginning of the series, finished 8th in the standings with 95 points. Bird left Jaguar after spending three seasons with the team at the end of the season.
