In 1896 the major motor race event was the race from Paris to Marseilles and back. The race was won by Emile Mayade on Panhard-Levassor. PL drivers occupied first three places in the race, while the best position of its main rival, Peugeot was the 5th place of Auguste Doriot on his 2-seated Phaeton car. The diecast scale model of this car was made by French manufacturer Safir in the late 1960s.
