The C21 was designed by German car engineer Willy Rampf. It was very similar to the C20, with modifications to the position of the radiators, suspension setup and rear bodywork. Sauber continued to use Petronas 02A-badged Ferrari V10 engine. The C21 livery also was almost exactly the same as the C20 in 2001: a blue, turquoise and white colour scheme derived from sponsors Petronas and Credit Suisse. Team drivers Nick Heidfeld and Felipe Massa were stable midfield runners and were able to score some small points for 4th, 5th and 6th places. Heidfeld was classified 10th in the final Championship standings with 7 points, while Massa scored 4 and was 13th. Sauber cars carried “Stop-AIDS” slogan on side deflectors on Italian, USA and Japanese Grand Prix as a result of a joint project between Sauber and the United Nations to raise awareness about the disease. The slogan can be seen on this Nick Heidfeld’s Minichamps model from USA GP.
