





The second season for British American Racing team in Formula One was much more successful than disastrous 1999 debut when BAR failed to score any points. Technically the 002 chassis was very similar to 01 from 1999. The major change was the new Honda RA000E Formula 1 engine, newly developed and assembled at Honda R&D Tochigi, Japan. Actually, BAR announced that Honda would be providing the engines in 2000 instead of Supertec V10 halfway their debut season. The reduced weight of the engine and the chassis, along with a special front pushrod mounting allowed the team to perform much better than in 1999. Jacques Villeneuve immediately managed to finish 4th at the first race of the year. Although he failed to get on the podium, he scored 17 points whilst Riccardo Zonta backed him up with three.
