1934 Bugatti T59 Nuvolari

Bugatti T59 emerged in 1933 was the further evolution of T35 – T51 – T54 racing car series by Bugatti. It used an enlarged 3.3 L (3257 cc/198 in³) version of the straight-eight Type 57’s touring car  engine sitting in a modified Type 54 chassis. The engine was lowered for a better center of gravity, and the frame was lightened with a number of holes drilled in the chassis. In 1934 Bugatti works team Usines Bugatti competed in all Grand Epreuves except German Grand Prix. The line-up for each race varied and consisted of 3-4 pilots selected from 5 works drivers: Rene Dreyfus, Robert Benoist, Jean-Pierre Wimille, Tazio Nuvolari, and Antonio Brivio. The major team success was the victory in Belgium by Rene Dreyfus. In Monaco Dreyfus was third, and Tazio Nuvolari finished in 5th position. The Spanish Grand Prix held in Lasarte, was the final Grand Epreuve or the season. Mercedes-Benz drivers Luigi Fagioli and Rudolf Caracciola took the double victory, while Nuvolari was third in one of the best Bugatti performances of the season.
