Peter Revson, who had an incomplete F1 season back in 1964 and a series of inconsistent drives in USAC Championship in between, was hired as third driver by Ken Tyrrell for the 1971 US Grand Prix held at Watkins Glen. Tyrrell 001 was given to Revson. He qualified as 21st out of 32 entrants, but his race ended on a very first lap due to clutch failure.
