Grand Prix History in Scale Models

2006, Christijan Albers, Midland, Minichamps

2006 Midland M16 Albers

The team was created by purchasing of Jordan Grand Prix by Canadian businessman, and owner of the Midland Group, Alex Shnaider. Shnaider was born in Leningrad, USSR, moved with his family to Israel when he was 4, and then to Canada when he was 13. The team was registered as the first Russian Formula One team, reflecting Shnaider’s roots, although it continued to be based in the United Kingdom, at Jordan’s Silverstone factory. Midland used Jordan’s engineering experience with ex-Jordan Chief designer James Key to develop the M16 model. Key was one of the youngest Technical Directors of a Formula One team, at the age of 33 year. The car was featured conventional carbon fibre monocoque chassis with  new Toyota RVX-06 2.4 L V8 engine. It was driven by Tiago Monteiro, who had driven for Jordan in 2005, and Christijan Albers, who moved from Minardi. At the beginning of the season the team went from running ahead of Super Aguri but behind everyone else. In the mid-season the performance increased but still was not enough to score points. The best result was achieved at the Hungarian Grand Prix where Monteiro and Albers finished 9-10. Towards the end of the 2006 season, the team was sold to Spyker Cars N.V, so the team raced in last three 2006 Grand Prix under the official name Spyker MF1 Racing.
