Brabham BT44 was designed by Gordon Murray for 1974 season and was used by the works team in 1974-75. The car followed conventional line of mid-70s design with an aluminium monococque body and standard Ford DFV/Hewland gearbox combination. The strong feature of the BT44 was its aerodynamics due to clean body lines and use of side skirts and airdams, a precursor to ground effects aerodynamics. The team driver #1 Argentinian Carlos Reutemann took three wins in 1974, but many retirements in other races dropped him to only 6th place in the Championship. In the position of the second driver of the team Richard Robarts and Ricky von Opel started several races each until finally Carlos Pace came to the team at the British Grand Prix.
