The M23 was introduced in 1973 and was a serious player in its first season. For 1974 the M23 changed little, except for the new Marlboro-Texaco livery instead of Yardley, marking the start of a long relationships between McLaren and Marlboro. 1972 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi joined McLaren from Lotus and gave McLaren its first drivers’ and constructors’ world championships. Fittipaldi won at Brazil, Belgium and Canada, and Denny Hulme added a victory at the Argentinian Grand Prix.
