The 312T5, an updated version of 312T4, the championship winning car of 1979, was unreliable, slow and uncompetitive. First time since 1973 Ferrari did not win a race during the entire season. World Champion Jody Scheckter was able to finish only once in the 5th position. Gilles Villeneuve achieved 4 finishes in the top 6, but the best place was the same 5th position in Monaco and Canada.
