Scuderia Ferrari used the 642 model for the 6 races of the season which was replaced by the Ferrari 643 at the 1991 French Grand Prix. The chassis of the 643 was totally redesigned to allow for softer suspension travel, as per Prost’s request. The V12 engine was also significantly upgraded. But that was not enough to win. Alain Prost scored four podiums in 643 (two 2nd and two 3rd places), and Jean Alesi have added two more third place results (in Germany and Portugal).
