Connaught C is the last model built at the Connaught factory at Send. Designed as all previous Connaught by Rodney Clark, the car was powered by 2.5-litres Alta engine. The old-style front-engined car had a distinctive body and was nicknamed “toothpaste” due to sharp and high tail. The car was entered for 1959 USA Grand Prix at Sebring, the last round of the championship, for American racing driver Boris “Bob” Said. Said raced sporadically in Europe, raced in sportscars in America had one start in NASCAR. His Formula 1 career lasted less than one lap – he spun off on the first lap due to engine failure. It is interesting that later Said became Olympic bobsled racer and took part in 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympic Games.
