Ken Tyrrell decided to move from third party chassis to his own cars in 1970, disappointing by the performance of March chassis used by the team that season. First home-made vehicle, Tyrrell 001 designed by Frank Gardner, was ready in August 1970, debuted at International Gold Cup at Oulton Park and was used by Jackie Stewart during last three overseas  rounds of the Championship retiring each time. The car was literally home-made because the work on the “Secret Project”, as the new car was codenamed by Tyrrell and Gardner, was performed at the Gardner’s own house.
