In 1950th when Indianapolis 500 was a part of World Driver’s Championship Ferrari decided to try their luck at the Old Brickyard. In 1952 Scuderia Ferrari entered Alberto Ascari as works driver to Indy 500 on a 375 model modified for specific oval track conditions. Three new Weber 40IF4C carburettors brought power output to 380 hp, the wheelbase was lengthened, and the chassis and suspension were strengthened. In addition three 375s were provided for American entrants – Johnnie Parsons, Johnny Mauro and Bobby Ball. Only Ascari was able to qualify, but the race was disappointing because Ascari had to withdraw with a broken wheel.
