The new Mk4 Eagle used by Bobby Unser in the 1968 Indy 500 was essentially the same as 1966-67 AAR-built cars. Unlike works AAR Eagles, Bobby Unser’s car was entered by Leader Card,  Inc. and named Rislone, was powered by turbocharged Offy engine instead of Ford V8. For the second year in a row, one of Andy Granatelli’s STP Turbine-powered machines was leading late in the race, but once again, it failed within sight of victory. Bobby Unser, who led the race in the beginning and in the middle of the event,  went into the lead again with just 8 laps to go when turbo engine of Joe Leonard’s Lotus 56 stalled. Unser cruises the final 10 laps and wins by nearly 54 seconds from the second-plCherlotedace driver Dan Gurney in works Eagle – Ford. Taking no chances, Unser runs two extra laps to make sure. It was the first of his three Indy 500 victories (1968, 1975, 1981).
