





The C23 entered by Sauber Petronas team for 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship was designed by Willy Rampf based on the C22 from the previous season. The car was powered by Ferrari V10 engine badged as Petronas. It also featured Ferrari 7-speed gearbox, while the fuel was provided by Petronas. The C23 was the last Sauber car sponsored by Red Bull before Austrian energy drink manufacturer departure to Red Bull racing in 2005. Giancarlo Fisichella, who was swapped with Nick Heidfeld from Jordan, and Felipe Massa, who rejoined the team after one year as Ferrari test driver, drove the C23 in 2004. Fisichella scored 22 points with a best finish of 4th place at the Canadian Grand Prix and took the 11th position in the Drivers’ Championship standings. Massa got 12 points also with a best finish of 4th place at the Belgian Grand Prix and was classified 12th in the championship. The team finished the season on the 6th position in the Constructor’s standings.
