The F1 W04 was designed by the team led by Engineering Director Aldo Costa, under the coordination of Technical Director Bob Bell. With the technical regulations remaining stable in 2013, ahead of major changes for 2014, the basic vehicle concept of the F1 W04 was a sophisticated evolution of last year’s car. It was driven by 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who joined the team after Michael Schumacher’s retirement, and Nico Rosberg, who remained with the team for a fourth season. Mercedes took 3 victories in 2012. Rosberg won at Monaco and Silverstone, and Hamilton secured his first win for the team at Hungaroring. In the final driver standings of the season Hamilton and Rosberg were 4th and 6th, respectively, and the Mercedes team finished 2nd in the Constructors’ Championship, a huge improvement from 5th in 2012.
